New year, new interior design trends? Whether your style is timeless or en vogue, the 2020s are a swing of the pendulum away from the age of modern design. Instead of sleek and clean, on-trend luxury home design trends are embracing warmth. Pandemic-era home design was clearly driven by a collective desire for serenity and security, and designers agree that the overarching theme of 2023 is comfort and coziness. Who doesn’t want a house that is truly home? You can incorporate each of these three interior design trends through major changes with interior architecture, or through small decor tweaks.
Vibrant Color Earthy palettes have been increasingly popular in recent years, with muted neutrals like cream and gray taking center stage. Benjamin Moore’s color of the year is Raspberry Blush, a coral, terracotta red that plays well with these earthy palettes, and with natural materials like wood that are so common in Montana homes. Now is the time to commit: 2023 luxury home design trends favor the bold, so consider not just an accent wall, but full color. If you have an all-white kitchen, go ahead and introduce some bright splashes of red and orange. Not ready to commit to this brighter palette? Swap out your creams and grays with chocolate brown, a warmer, overlooked neutral color.
Soft Angles If you use trending color palettes, consider how architectural softness will be a better compliment than the square, sharpness of modern style. Home design trends experts are predicting we’ll see soft angles everywhere from arched doorways and rounded ceilings in interior architecture to headboards and other furniture. If there’s one trend you’re about to see everywhere this year, it’s scallops, a throwback to the Art Deco movement. Why scallops? They’re a lighthearted design, creative but uncomplicated, and easy to incorporate. We’ve already seen it on headboards, chair backs, lampshades, accent walls, and backsplashes. The ceiling’s the limit with scallops, and we can’t get enough of this trend!

Hobby Rooms While open-concept styles are still very popular, many of us are seeking out cozy and intimate niches in our homes. For some folks, that might look like establishing a dedicated space for crafts, fitness, listening to music, reading, or sitting with a cup of coffee. Commit fully with a new wall—or perhaps a scalloped partition is all you need. It can be easy to delineate spaces in your home with lighting alone, so be creative. In Montana, we’ll see this play out in interior spaces as well as outside, so think expansively about your property and all the opportunities to create sub-spaces.
We hope you enjoy these 2023 luxury home design trends, but don’t forget that a Montana home is always on trend! We look forward to working with you this year to help you find a home that perfectly matches your own personal style.
