FALL GOLFING IN MONTANA

FALL GOLFING IN MONTANA

Golf courses in Montana are busiest during the summer heyday, when tourists visit and snowbirds return to their golf community homes. But fall presents some special opportunities to enjoy the beauty of autumn from the fairways and get in some great rounds before the snow flies. Here are three reasons to consider golfing—or shopping for homes on golf courses—during the fall season.

1. Better access
Most people, whether residents or vacationers, golf in the summer. As the weather cools and families turn their attention to the school year, many people put away their clubs, providing more opportunities to get a tee time. Montana has many top golf courses, including the Wilderness Club, which is less than an hour northwest of Whitefish and is continually ranked as one of the country’s best public golf courses.

Golfweek’s list of best public golf courses in Montana includes several courses across the western half of the state, such as Old Works in Anaconda and the south course of the Whitefish Lake Golf Club. Two courses in Missoula, The Ranch Club and Canyon River, also made the list.

Private golf clubs also abound in the state and can be the ideal place to purchase a luxury golf course home or a golf lot for sale. Rock Creek Cattle Company in Deer Lodge, which is centrally located between Missoula, Helena, and Butte, was named one of Golf Magazine’s 2021 Top 100 Courses in the U.S.

2. Great greens
Montana’s top golf courses take great pride in their fairways and greens. By September, the courses have received an entire summer of careful care and are in excellent shape for the shoulder season. This is another great reason to also consider golf community homes—your neighborhood will have a team of experts dedicated to impeccably maintaining the landscaping.

The slowed pace of golf courses in the fall makes for relaxing rounds with less pressure to move quickly through the courses. As leaves fall and conditions change, golf rules relax as well, such as the ability to estimate a ball’s position if it lands among too many leaves. It’s an opportunity to play golf for the joy of the game without stressing as much over your score.

3.  Fall colors
Montana’s scenery is what draws visitors and residents alike. Fall is an exceptionally beautiful season as aspen, birch and even the tamaracks turn yellow, orange and red across the mountains and valleys. Crisp, cool mornings provide views for miles, making golf properties for sale at least as desirable as they are earlier in the summer. It’s easy to envision a round of golf followed by an afternoon of college football in your golf community home, just minutes from your favorite fairway.

Whether you’re looking at luxury golf course homes or other types of residential real estate, PureWest Christie’s is here with the local expertise you need to buy or sell a home in Montana.
