Red Lodge, Montana has made an incredible recovery following the historic flooding in June of 2022. This strong and resilient community has been hard at work after Rock Creek overflowed its banks last month, sending water and debris down the streets in an event without precedent in the history of the town.
The Beartooth Highway, the most scenic route to Yellowstone National Park which was also affected by the flooding, has been repaired and is scheduled to open July 22, 2022, ahead of schedule. Travelers looking for summer activities in Montana will be excited to see that Red Lodge is open as well, with a number of popular restaurants and the Roman Theater, the oldest operating movie theater in Montana, up and running again.

Downtown Red Lodge is historic Montana at its best. Many of Broadway Avenue’s charming buildings are more than 100 years old and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Red Lodge is also known for having an incredible number of restaurants per capita compared to other towns and rural communities, including PREROGATIvE Kitchen, where chefs Chris Lockhart and Danny Mowatt were named 2022 semifinalists in the James Beard Foundation’s chef awards.
There are so many things to do in Red Lodge, from exploring the numerous art galleries to live music at the Snow Creek Saloon or Jimmy’s Roadhouse. And of course, Red Lodge is the perfect launching pad for every kind of outdoor adventure imaginable, from hiking and mountain biking to fly fishing and horseback riding. Whatever part of the Montana lifestyle appeals to your imagination, you can try it on for size in Red Lodge.
To aid Red Lodge and the greater Carbon County’s recovery efforts, PureWest Christie’s #PureGiving campaign has partnered with the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation. PureWest will match $5,000 in donations to help the Red Lodge community rebuild and thrive.
