The close proximity to water is much of what makes residential real estate in Montana so desirable. Fishing is one of the most versatile water activities—whether you own lakefront property and toss in a line from your dock or strike out to a woodland stream with your fly rod, there are so many places and ways to fish here. Sports stores and fishing shops are a great place to get inside knowledge on where the fish are biting and what they’re munching on.
Kayaks are a great way to get out onto a lake. They’re beginner-friendly and most lakes have rental options, as do most sporting goods stores. It’s fun to get a different perspective on waterfront properties and lake houses for sale as you cruise by from the water side. Some lakes have public islands that you can paddle to, such as Wild Horse Island in Flathead Lake, much of which is a Montana state park.

Of course, swimming is another great water activity. Athletes head to Montana’s shallower lakes, which warm up more quickly, for open water swimming workouts. Families enjoy the many public access beaches, including Volunteer Park and the newly-opened Somers Beach State Park on Flathead Lake, two great recreation spots that make Flathead Lake properties even more desirable. Homes for sale in Whitefish have the benefit of their proximity to Whitefish Lake, another beautiful place to enjoy the water. City Beach is great for families and a very popular summer spot to relax.
Whether you’re looking for lakefront property or a home for sale near the water, there are so many wonderful ways to enjoy Montana’s lakes and rivers this summer and make some memories while the sun shines.
