1. Spring Cleaning
This simple step can have a big effect on the curb appeal, whether your house is a beautiful piece of waterfront property or a luxury mountainside home. A good rule of thumb: if you can see it from the sidewalk, clean it. From the first floor siding and windows to the driveway and porch, give everything a good scrub. Home buyers want to see your Montana property in all the glory of spring, so be sure to clear away any lingering dead leaves and debris from sidewalk cracks and porch corners.
Don’t forget about the fixtures—wipe the cobwebs from all the exterior lights and take a good look at your front door. A fresh coat of paint is an above-and-beyond step, but one that might be worth it if you’d like to make your residential real estate listing stand out from the crowd. If you don’t have time to paint, clean off all the scuffs, fingerprints, and paw prints and shine up the hardware. A kick plate is easy to install and adds a nice feature, in addition to concealing any boot dings in the bottom of the door.
2. Landscaping
Winter takes its toll on a home’s landscaping. When the snow melts away, it reveals the remnants of last fall. Start by clearing away any dried leaves and sticks. As things begin to bloom, take a good look at your bushes and trees: are there any dead branches that need clearing, or places that growth is crowding the sidewalk or obscuring a window? Don’t put any obstacles between potential home buyers and your beautiful Montana home for sale!
Flowerbeds are a great way to add color and life to the front of your house. Trends in real estate come and go, but plants are always in style. Thoughtful landscaping is also a great way to camouflage potential eyesores, like utility boxes or meters.

3. Decor
When everything is washed, trimmed, and planted, the final step to make your residential real estate listing stand out from the rest is a little bit of welcoming decor. This can be as simple as a brightly-colored throw blanket or pillow arranged on a bench, or a couple of Adirondack chairs with some decorative lanterns and a potted plant. The furniture you choose, and how you arrange it, helps a potential home buyer see the possibilities for the outdoor space in front of your home.
Rather than using your favorite colors in porch decor, consider what colors complement your home’s exterior. If your Montana home has a white or gray color palette, go bold. Conversely, if your house already has a lot of color—perhaps a historic Victorian with ornate detailing—keep your decor simple and neutral. The goal is to impress a potential home buyer, not overwhelm them.
From luxury homes in Whitefish to lake homes on Flathead Lake, the appeal of every home can benefit from a good spring cleaning and a few refreshing touches. Putting the time in now will mean an entire spring and summer of enjoyment for you, or that extra bit of interest to help sell your home quickly.
