Expedia used positive traveler reviews using words like “friendliest” and “amiable” between January 2019 and December 2020 to rank destinations. Travelers further described Whitefish as a “gateway to Glacier Park” and offering “outdoorsy delights” to visitors.

Summer Outdoor Activities
Whitefish certainly offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, no matter the season. In summer, visitors can enjoy Whitefish Lake, the links at Whitefish Golf Club, and the mountain biking, ziplining, and alpine slide activities of Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Winter Outdoor Activities
Winter brings a plethora of activities beyond the slopes of Whitefish Mountain Resort. Cross-country ski options abound on the Whitefish Trail and at Round Meadows just west of town, as well as in town at the golf course. Whitefish’s location also provides many nearby options for snowshoeing, ice fishing, fat tire biking and snowmobiling.

Glacier National Park
And of course, any time of year is a good time to visit the Crown of the Continent, Glacier National Park, just about half an hour’s drive from downtown Whitefish. Each area of the park provides exceedingly gorgeous places to hike, camp, paddleboard, or swim. Though the drivable area decreases once the snow flies, so do the crowds, providing the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Lake McDonald or a cross-country ski up the Camas Road in solitude.
Downtown Whitefish
And when the adventuring is done, there are still the delights of downtown Whitefish to enjoy, including intriguing local shops and a wide variety of restaurants. As the Explore Whitefish website explains, this resort town was built from the ground up by locals, not manufactured by outside investors. Though the years pass, the small-town vibe remains.
As the website explains, “The people of Whitefish are genuinely friendly and down-to-earth. The town's low-key atmosphere tends to make life in this tight-knit community a happy and warm place to live as well as visit. Though you may spot a movie star on occasion, Whitefish is the kind of town that wants to keep out of the spotlight despite the high-profile beauty of its own backyard.”
Expedia points out that as travelers hit the road again, they’ll be looking for destinations that are sure to provide a warm welcome. And Whitefish tops that list.
