Flying Our Friendly Skies

Flying Our Friendly Skies

Our state is a wonderful place to live, but flying in and out of Montana has historically been a challenge. We’ve become used to getting up for that 5 a.m. first flight out to make a connection or accepting that getting anywhere we really want to go is going to take several connections. “It took so long to get home from Florida that we could have gone to Europe in less time,” has been a very relatable story for Montanans. But those times are changing: with new flights and new airlines coming to Montana, travel days to and from the Treasure State are getting shorter.

Southwest Starts Flights to Bozeman
Although most major airlines have flown into Montana for years, it’s never been on the map for Southwest Airlines. However, Southwest just announced that it will start daily flights to and from Bozeman on May 27, 2021. Travelers can fly direct to Denver and Las Vegas and connect from there to anywhere Southwest flies.

New Flights from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport
Southwest’s routes to Denver and Las Vegas aren’t the only new flights in town. Alaska Airlines also recently added summer seasonal direct flights from Bozeman to San Diego and San Francisco. During the popular summer season, travelers can now fly direct from Bozeman to 24 cities across the country. The airport also provides year-round direct access to 13 major cities from coast to coast, including Atlanta, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago and Nashville, as well as the traditional connecting hubs in Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

JetBlue Starts Flights to Kalispell
Glacier Park International Airport recently announced that JetBlue Airways will begin summer seasonal service between Kalispell and New York City. This brings the number of major carriers flying to the Flathead Valley to six, as JetBlue joins American, Alaska, Allegiant, Delta, and United. In addition to JetBlue’s New York flights, American Airlines has announced new flights to New York City and Charlotte, North Carolina. The Flathead Valley now offers direct flights to 12 cities during the summer season and six year-round: Salt Lake City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Denver, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Portland.

New Flights from Missoula International Airport
Allegiant Airlines has announced a new direct flight from Missoula to Portland. Travelers can fly direct to 12 cities year-round, including Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix, as well as four additional seasonal destinations: Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta and Oakland.

As life slowly edges back towards normal and our thoughts turn to the people and places we’d like to begin visiting again, the range of airlines and destinations now available to Montanans will make traveling easier than ever. We can get where we want to go and have this beautiful place to come home to, truly the best of both worlds.
