PureWest Christie’s is pleased to share that 2018 was a record-breaking year for waterfront property sales on Flathead Lake. 2018 saw 75 sales of waterfront property, representing a total volume of $76 million. The previous high for this region, posted in 2004, was 71 sales, with a total volume of $75 million. From Polson to Bigfork to Lakeside property for sale, homes overlooking these emerald waters are exquisite!
Flathead Lake is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, with over 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline. It is fed by the three forks of the Flathead River, which run with some of the country’s cleanest, clearest water. Generations of cherry farmers on Flathead Lake’s eastern shores have made the region famous.
On the western shore, the small towns of Dayton, Elmo, and Big Arm saw an overall increase in sales, compared to 2017. On the southern tip of the lake, Polson’s sale totals decreased—though David Fetveit, PureWest Broker/Owner, attributes this to the strength of the market in 2017.
“They had a really big year in 2017, so they had sold out a lot of their inventory,” Fetveit told NBC. “They just didn’t have as much inventory to sell.”
Looking forward to the new year, Fetveit said that there are currently more Flathead Lake waterfront listings than there were in January of last year.
“I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that our prices aren’t spiking,” Fetveit said. “We are seeing pretty steady growth, but it’s not a hockey stick, so it still makes the market approachable.”
