Flathead Lake is 26.9 miles long, 15.3 miles wide, 380 feet deep, and, with 166 miles of shoreline, it’s the biggest freshwater lake in the west. But sometimes, somehow, Flathead Lake feels like a well-kept secret. Despite being one of the nation’s most beautiful and pristine lakes, towns along the shoreline aren’t crowded or busy. Rather, life by this lake is quiet and serene. But the secret may be out: MSN recently recognized Bigfork, the artsy and tight-knit community on the lake’s northeastern shoulder, among the United States’ best lake towns. Those with Bigfork Montana real estate know it to be true!
“This small town, located in northwest Montana, is next to one of the most scenic lakes in the state: the 27-mile freshwater Flathead Lake,” Ciara Appelbaum wrote for MSN. “When you’re not fly fishing there or keeping an eye out for ‘The Flathead Lake Monster,’ you can explore the Great Outdoors at the nearby Glacier National Park or Yellowstone. Summer here also features the Riverbend Concert series, and the Bigfork Festival of the Arts.”
The first Riverbend Concert Series event is on June 25, featuring the Ashley Creek Ramblers play at Sliter Park. This summer’s series welcomes Halladay Quist, the Bad Larrys, One Less Karen, and Cocicnando in July, and, in August, the Leftover Biscuits, Willson and McKee, the Fetveit Brothers, the Flathead Valley Community Band.
The 39th annual Bigfork Festival of the Arts kicks off on August 5, and will feature art galleries, restaurants, shops, and more in the main streets of downtown Bigfork.
The MSN ‘best of’ list also included classic lake towns like Lake Placid, New York; South Lake Tahoe, California; and Cooper Landing, Alaska. Here’s to hoping that Flathead Lake stays quiet and beautiful as it’s always been! If you’re interested in Bigfork Montana Real estate, give us a call today!
