You’ve heard all about Montana’s blue-ribbon trout streams, but there are also plenty of lakes across the state that boast incredible stillwater fishing. If you’re an angler who loves to soak up a scenic view from the water, you should consider looking into Montana fishing lake property! While PureWest agents can help you find a dream property with shoreline (or maybe even a private hole) Montana living also situates you close to big lakes with public access and legendary trout populations. Here’s some of our favorite places to go lake fishing.
Ennis Lake — Formed by a dam right in the middle of the famous Madison River, Ennis Lake is home to large rainbow and brown trout. They hide in the lake’s deeper holes, alongside brook trout, mountain whitefish, and grayling.
Harrison Lake — This reservoir is known for a population of rainbows that will really fight your line, so be prepared to work for a catch. Part of what makes them so tough is their size, it’s worth the effort!
Hebgen Lake — This is a larger lake with a huge amount of massive rainbow and brown trout. You may also reel in mountain whitefish, brook trout, and westslope cutthroat.
Flathead Lake — In the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, you’ll find lake trout, pike, yellow perch, whitefish, rainbow trout, bull trout, and others. The lake trout, which live deep in Flathead Lake’s crystal-clear waters, are monstrous.
Holland Lake — This scenic lake offers quality rainbow trout, cutthroat, and whitefish fishing. It is also stocked with kokanee salmon and westslope cutthroat.
